When you have your own business, standing out in a crowded marketplace can feel a bit overwhelming at times. There are many different strategies, some of them massively time consuming, so how do you decide if adding “podcast host” is the right path for you?

When I started my podcast, I had no idea how powerful it would be for my business. Today, Amplify Your Success Podcast is in the top 1.5% of podcasts worldwide and I get messages frequently from people who listen and share that it's their favorite podcast.

But is that enough to justify all of the hard work and significant investment in hosting a weekly show? I decided to dedicate this episode to finding out.

On Amplify Your Success Podcast episode 280 I’m joined by four of my friends and fellow podcasters, Jennifer Henczel, Kimmie Seltzer, Tiphany Kane and Michelle Abraham, who are all speaking at Podfest in the Women In Podcasting Track. I asked them to share how having a podcast has positively impacted their business, lives, confidence and even their connection with our community.

Join us in the Amplify Your Authority FREE Facebook Group to learn more strategies to stop being a best-kept secret and stand out as an industry go-to authority.

Key Takeaways

  • [4:02] Meet Jennifer, Kimmy, Michelle and Tiphany.
  • [8:03] Why Kimmy started as a guest on other people’s podcasts (and her regret at waiting to start her own podcast!)
  • [9:14] Michelle reveals how being a super busy mom is a key reason she got into podcasting.
  • [11:46] Jennifer shares her story about her husband’s near death experience and how it sparked her passion to start a podcast.
  • [13:10] Tiphany shares how her side-hustle became a full-time career path change due to the success of her podcast.
  • [15:15] I share my own story of feeling invisible and how starting my podcast catapulted me back into “go-to authority.”
  • [17:45] I ask each of the guests to share what had to shift in their mindset to have the confidence and courage to become a successful podcast host.
  • [20:25] Tiphany breaks down a common podcast myth about high downloads.
  • [21:56] We discuss how collaboration has become a superpower (and an unexpected bonus of having a popular podcast.)
  • [25:25] Michelle mentions how producing your own podcast forces you to gain clarity and feel your confidence by owning your own message and voice.
  • [29:03] Kimmy shares how she had to get comfortable with tech failures and not getting everything perfect right out of the gate.
  • [30:20] Jennifer discusses her mantra “Done is better than perfect” and how it's a blueprint for a business on her terms.
  • [33:34] We talk about what’s going to be happening at Podfest Expo in Orlando (and our SWAG bags!)

As an expert-based business owner, getting more eyes on your offers and ears to your message is a big part of client attraction. So of course, podcasts are a valuable strategy to grow your reach. But the trick is, how do you get a podcast host to book you on their show?

You might turn to a podcast booking service, which will help you free up time. But, these services aren’t always effective (and I really want you to be successful) so I turned to one of my favorite podcast booking services to find out what’s working right now.

On Amplify Your Success Podcast episode 279, Julie Fry of Your Expert Guest, joins and we take you behind the scenes to share how to get more bookings on top podcasts.

  • [10:46] I reveal my antidote to the onslaught of pitches from podcast booking services
  • [15:36] The importance of knowing how a podcast host likes to be pitched (and following that process.)
  • [18:54] Julie and I discuss the importance of vetting potential guests, and how social media plays an important role in whether they get booked or not.
  • [24:03] Why follow up is important, and how to time your follow-up so you aren’t annoying the host.
  • [29:35] How to be the best guest, and get asked back over and over again.
